Beginning Korean Immersion Experience
2009/06/16
Having followed a link to All Japanese All The Time, a site dedicated to immersion strategies for Japanese, and considered my case relative to Korean for a couple days, I’ve decided (after a year of merely SRSing) that I’m invested enough to justify changing my goal from “competency” to “fluency”. Of course, immersion does not help in the short term — certainly not enough to help prepare for my departure 14 days hence. But I (may) have long-term interests in Korea: friendship, appetite, intellectual stimulation. My attatchment to the culture.. wellll… that depends on details. So, starting yesterday, I’m immersing myself in AJATT style: doing my other fun activities (math, programming, reading, physics) in Korean. I may give it up in the future, but during the summer there is no rush. If I’m going to do X, why not do it in a more deliberative, dictionary-intensive way?
